Sorcerers Double Reed Quartet
The Sorcerers Double Reed Quartet is an active performing ensemble based out of Iowa City, Iowa. Originating in 2005 as an apprentice group of WiZARDS! A Double Reed Consort, the ensemble has performed in a variety of venues, including the 2007 and 2008 International Double Reed Society Conferences, the 2007 University of Iowa School of Music Centennial Showcase Concert, and the University of Iowa’s OctOBOEfest. The group was a semifinalist in the 2008 Plowman Chamber Music Competition, and will also appear on WiZARDS! next commercial recording
Jill Staudt is an undergraduate oboe performance major at The University of Iowa. A student of Mark Weiger, Staudt transferred from Winona State University in 2007, where she had previously studied with Kristi Krause. She is a member of The University of Iowa Symphony Orchestra and Concert Band, as well as the Sorcerers Double Reed Quartet and other chamber ensembles. In 2007, Staudt spent three weeks performing in the international Rome Festival in Italy. She has also performed in the New York Summer Music Festival and has played in master classes with oboists Richard Woodhams and Bert Lucarelli.
Stuart Breczinski is a student at The University of Iowa, pursuing his Bachelor of Music degree with oboe professor Mark Weiger. He has been a member of the Quad City and Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestras, and is also a founding and active member of the Sorcerers Double Reed Quartet. Breczinski was the winner of The University of Iowa’s Center for the Arts competition in 2007, and also a two-time winner of the Midwest Oboe Competition. A composer as well as an oboist, he is currently working on a commission for the Midwest Double Reed Society’s 25th Anniversary.
Jack McCauley will attend The University of New Mexico in the fall to pursue his Masters degree in oboe performance with Kevin Vigneau. He received his Bachelor of Music degree from The University of Iowa, where he studied with Mark Weiger. McCauley has performed with the Cedar Rapids, Quad City, Dubuque, and Oskaloosa Symphony Orchestras, and has additionally performed at Carnegie Hall with The University of Iowa Symphony Band. He is a founding member of the Sorcerers Double Reed Quartet, with whom he has recorded alongside WiZARDS! A Double Reed Consort.
Jeff Tilghman is pursuing his Doctor of Musical Arts degree at The University of Iowa, studying with bassoon professor Benjamin Coelho. Tilghman received his Master of Arts degree from The University of Iowa and his Bachelor of Music Education degree from The University of Mississippi. He is a founding member of the Sorcerers Double Reed Quartet. Tilghman has performed with the Cedar Rapids, Ottumwa, and Oskaloosa Symphony Orchestras, as well as The University of Iowa’s Symphony Orchestra and Center for New Music ensemble.
