The Matisse Trio faculty ensemble from the University of Iowa School of Music brings their sound of chamber music to Fairfield’s Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts, Thursday, February 25 at 7:30 p. m. The Trio (Piano, Cello and Violin) will perform works including Piano Quartet in A Minor by Gustav Mahler, Trio No. 1 for Piano, Violin, and Cello, Op. 35 by Joaquin Turina and Piano Quartet in E Flat Major, op. 87 by Antonín Dvorák.
The Matisse Trio was formed in 2004 by pianist Ksenia Nosikova, violinist Katie Wolfe, and cellist Anthony Arnone, faculty members at the University of Iowa. Their passion for chamber music has brought these three internationally acclaimed soloists together to explore the rich and varied repertoire of the piano trio. While maintaining active solo and teaching careers, the Matisse Trio has performed around the country in New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Kansas, Iowa, and Hawaii. As they are also dedicated educators, the trio regularly gives clinics and master classes to college and high school students.
“We are excited to have the Matisse Trio at the Sondheim Center stage,” said Rustin Lippincott, Fairfield Arts & Convention Center. “These musicians possess impressive musicianship and refined sensibility and exquisite pianism, fascinating to watch and hear."
