THE INAUGURATION OF A BRAND NEW CONCERT SERIES IN FAIRFIELD
On Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 2 PM, Fairfield Chamber Music Series International (FCMSI) launches the first installment of a 12 concerts a year chamber music series featuring statewide, national and international ensembles on Sunday afternoons at The MainStay Inn at 300 North Main Street, Fairfield, Iowa. www.mainstayfairfield.com
Admission to this concert is $15. Seating is limited. Please RSVP early by calling Freddy at 641-472-7634 to be sure you have a seat.
After the concert, there will be a reception hosted by Kate Ross, the owner of the Inn. There will also be a raffle and you can win a free ticket to a next concert. Raffle tickets are $1.
This recital is sponsored in part by the Fairfield Iowa Convention and Visitors Bureau.
This first concert showcases an exquisite trio from Grinnell, IA, the New Prairie Camerata with Claudia Anderson, flute, Jeanmarie Kern Chenette, harp and Nancy McFarland Gaub, violin. Their program, Iberian Impressions, consists of mouthwatering compositions on Spanish and Portuguese themes by Piazzolla, Villa-Lobos, de Falla, Escobar, Ravel, Bizet and Ibert.
Most concerts on the new series will take place on Sunday afternoons at the MainStay Inn, thanks to an idea of Kate Ross to generate monthly cultural events in Fairfield. Occasionally, some of these concerts will be offered at ICON Iowa Contemporary Art gallery and the Stephen Sondheim Center for the Performing Arts in Fairfield to accomodate larger audiences.
There is a wealth of wonderful musical treasures and dedicated small ensembles right here in Iowa as well as in many other states and countries. This concert series provides a fantastic opportunity for Fairfield to be regularly exposed to high caliber and rarely heard chamber music which will doubtless attract visitors from the area to Fairfield as well.
An advisory board for FCMSI is under development and grants are being applied for as well as sponsors being approached.
