The newly founded Chamber Music Society Fairfield will give a musical soiree at the Bill & Judy Hickey residence on Saturday, March 10 starting at 7:45 PM. You will hear duets, solos, art songs and a piano trio composed by Bach, Barber, Beethoven, Debussy, Dvorák, Fauré, Gabriel, Liszt, Mozart and Zumstein, and performed by Nancy McFarland Gaub, violin; Donna Nelson, cello; Karen Carter, Rosemary Gabriel, Eugene Gaub, Mahima Lise Marcell, Nathanael Zumstein, pianists; Magda Georgio, soprano and Freddy Niagara Fonseca, baritone who is the founder of the Society. ARTISTS IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE:
Karen Carter is a Eurythmist by profession. She is also a musician and has been playing the piano for most of her life.
Mahima Lise Marcell graduated from Hartt School of Music and subsequently taught piano and accompanied music students for 15 years. She also loves to sing in MUM chamber singers and sings and plays keyboard for bhajans.
Violinist Nancy McFarland Gaub has had a varied career throughout the U.S., Mexico and Europe as soloist, recitalist, chamber and orchestral musician. She has played concerti under conductors Aije Oue, Maximiano Valdes, and Arie Lipsky, among others. Currently, she teaches violin and chamber music at Grinnell College, performs chamber music with the Iowa Chamber Coalition and the New Prairie Camerata, and is performer and co-artistic director of the Roycroft Chamber Music Festival in East Aurora, NY.
Freddy Niagara Fonseca is a poet, performance artist, singer and impresario. He is the founder of the Candlelight Reading Series and Chamber Music Society Fairfield.
Pianist Nathanael Zumstein has a Masters of Music in Composition from Catholic University of America. He plays violin in Ottumwa Symphony Orchestra.
Donna Nelson began playing cello in college. Mainly self-taught. Played in Lincoln and Omaha Symphonies for several years before moving to Fairfield in 1981. Currently principal cellist with Southeast Iowa, Ottumwa, and Oskaloosa Symphonies.
Also plays in various other musical groups.
Pianist Eugene Gaub is Associate Professor and Chair of Music at Grinnell College. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he holds a Doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. Along with his wife, Nancy McFarland Gaub, he is Co-artistic Director of the Roycroft Chamber Music Festival, which they founded in 1994 in East Aurora, New York.
Rosemary Gabriel is a self-taught composer mentored by Eric Lewis of the Manhattan String Quartet. She is engaged in receiving musical education from several directions, learning about music theory and string instruments.
Magda Georgio is from London. She has lived and sung in London, Athens, New York and Wyoming. Magda is also a yoga instructor. She came to Fairfield as an MUM student but is taking time off to concentrate on her singing and teaching careers again.
