ARTISTS IN ORDER OF APPEARANCE:
Mahima Lise Marcell graduated from Hartt School of Music and subsequently taught piano and accompanied music students for 15 years. She also loves to sing in MUM chamber singers.
Phil D'Agostino has a Bachelor's in Piano from Oberlin College...has lived in Fairfield since 1979. Works on the staff of M.U.M.
Meara Oberdieck is a sophmore at Univ of Iowa. She was awarded a full merit scholarship to study with Dr. Ksenia Nosikova. In high school she was the winner of several competitions including the Piano Music Teachers Association, and the Cedar Rapids Symphony Concerto Competition.
Pamela Vaughan, when younger won cups at Music Festivals in UK for English and French song, Lieder, opera and operetta, then went on to sing in musical theatre and cabaret.
Patricia Saunders, pianist and composer from UK
Karen Carter is a Eurythmist. She is also a musician and has been playing the piano for most of her life. Tonight, she’ll be the narrator in duet with Nancy McFarland Gaub on violin.
Violinist Nancy McFarland Gaub has had a varied career throughout the U.S., Mexico & Europe as soloist, recitalist, chamber & orchestral musician. She teaches violin & chamber music at Grinnell College, performs chamber music with the Iowa Chamber Coalition & the New Prairie Camerata, and is performer & co-artistic director of the Roycroft Chamber Music Festival in E Aurora, NY.
Ulrike Selleck: In Fairfield Ulrike was seen and heard in her show-stopping performance as Katisha in "The Mikado". Most recently she performed in Puccini's "La Boheme" at Hancher in Iowa City and sang the Mezzo solo in Beethoven's "9th Symphony" with the Ottumwa Symphony and two arias at the Steinway benefit concert. Upcoming performances include Ruth in Gilbert and Sullivan's "Pirates of Penzance", and the Second Lady in Mozart's "Magic Flute".
Freddy Niagara Fonseca is a poet, performance artist, tenor, and impresario. He is the founder of the Candlelight Reading Series and Chamber Music Society Fairfield.
Susan Stern grew up in Colorado Springs, CO, where she performed frequently and was the winner of several local piano competitions. She graduated from medical school and residency in New York and maintained a private practice in psychiatry. She currently studies piano with Eugene Gaub.
Pianist Eugene Gaub is Associate Professor and Chair of Music at Grinnell College. A graduate of the Juilliard School, he holds a Doctorate from the Eastman School of Music. Along with his wife, Nancy McFarland Gaub, he is Co-artistic Director of the Roycroft Chamber Music Festival, which they founded in 1994 in East Aurora, NY.
Donna Nelson began playing cello in college. Mainly self-taught. Played in Lincoln and Omaha Symphonies for several years before moving to Fairfield in 1981. Currently principal cellist with Southeast Iowa, Ottumwa, and Oskaloosa Symphonies. Also plays in various other musical groups.
Musical Salon with two concerts by Chamber Music Society Fairfield
Chamber Music Society Fairfield presents two concerts in a musical salon setting at the Eugene & Nancy Gaub residence Friday and Saturday, May 18 and 19, starting 7:30 PM promptly.
On the program are works by Haydn, Schubert, Fauré, Cilea, Mendelssohn, Chopin, Beethoven, Ridout, Mozart, Debussy. You will hear piano duets, solos, art songs, a piano trio, a string and bariton quartet.
The performers are Mahima Lise Marcell, Phil d’Agostino, Susan Stern, Patricia Saunders, Meara Oberdieck, Eugene Gaub, pianists; Pamela Vaughan, soprano, and Freddy Niagara Fonseca, tenor; Nancy McFarland Gaub, violin; Donna Nelson, cello; Karen Carter, narrator.
