Eurythmy, Raga, Indian Song & Poetry
The Candlelight Reading Series presents a semi-theatrical performance of Eurythmy, Raga, Indian Song & Poetry on Saturday, April 21st, 2007, 8:00 PM at Fairfield Art of Dance, 52 East Briggs, across the Fairfield Courthouse in Fairfield, Iowa (Highway 34 & 1). The doors will open at 7:30. The event lasts a little over an hour.
Eurythmy is a movement art form initiated by Rudolf Steiner, founder of anthroposophy, as the art of visible speech and also song. It powerfully enlivens the etheric space allowing both performer and audience to experience spirituality through specific gestures and movement.
Karen Carter, eurythmist, accompanied by Dr. Mousumi Dey, vocals, tampura & tambourine, Mehul Kar, tabla, and Freddy Niagara Fonseca, recitation will take you through dynamic selections of Indian song and poetry by Tagore, Tulsidas and Mirabai, made visible etherically through eurythmy.
Karen has studied and performed eurythmy in the New York & New England area. Mousumi who is on the MSAE faculty has sung Indian songs since age four. Mehul is a student at MSAE. Lighting effects by Phil Carter. Freddy is a poet, performer and producer of off-the-beaten-track projects. Admission is $10. The doors will open at 7:30 PM.
