Love & Erotic Poetry on Valentine's Day
The Candlelight Reading Series presents a Love &
Erotic Poetry Reading on Valentine’s Day, Tuesday, February 14, 2006, 8 PM at Revelations Bookstore, 112 North Main Street, Fairfield, Iowa, read and interpreted by Patricia Kirti Wood and Freddy Niagara Fonseca, and the two winners of the Love Poetry Contest with musical accompaniment by Robin Pfoutz on cello.
Poets, young or old, never seem to get enough of writing about love, and every poetic style or period approaches the subject very differently. Some traditions look at love more philosophically while others wax appropiately poetic about their beloved, and others again can get pretty wild. Few people know that a substantial amount of erotic poetry exists worldwide also, and some of it is positively hilarious and ehhh... quite to the point!
Tied in to the reading, there was a local poetry contest. Fairfield poets were invited to send in an original love or erotic poem. Out of some 12 entries, two winning poems have been selected. The winners are Mary Ellen Maguire for her poem 'Chocolate' and Sharalyn Harris for 'I Loved You, I Suppose.' Both ladies have been invited to come read their poem.
