Poetry in Spanish & Translation

Poetry in Spanish and Translation, Saturday, June 4, 2005, 8 PM, Revelations Bookstore, 112 North Main, Fairfield, Iowa

The poetry of the Spanish speaking cultures is extremely varied and sensually beautiful, ranging to the deeply mystical. Some of the greatest poets in the world such as Neruda, Paz, Jiménez, Guillén, Lorca, Borges, Bécquer, Machado wrote poetry in Spanish.

On Saturday, June 4 at 8 PM, Freddy Niagara Fonseca and Jannou W. Jaxtheimer present some fascinating poetry from Chile, Spain, Argentina, Colombia, Costa Rica, Uruguay, and Mexico in the ongoing Candlelight Reading Series at Revelations Bookstore, 112 North Main, Fairfield, Iowa.

Jannou will read each poem in Spanish and Freddy reads each in translation. Hearing the poems side by side, with the musicality of the Spanish language intact, presents a unique opportunity for the listener. Here is a great chance for southeast Iowa audiences to hear a wide selection of poems written in Spanish along with the translations in English. Admission is free.
