Haiku and Nature Poetry
The Candlelight Reading Series, hosted by Freddy Niagara Fonseca, is presenting a Haiku and Nature Poetry evening on Saturday, January 15, 2005, 8 PM at Revelations downstairs.
Haiku in its brevity has the power and charm of opening up timelessness in our busy lives. Three local poets, Rolf Erickson, Ken Chawkin and Freddy will be regaling you with just that. Musical accompaniment by Tim Britton on flute, mandolin and whistle.
You will be hearing for instance one of the most famous haiku poets, Basho (1644-1694), who wrote this engaging haiku:
Mosquito at my ear
does it think
I'm deaf?
On the program are haiku selections from the Japanese, nature poetry, dramatic, ethereal and funny haiku written in English by American & British poets, and original poetry of the three readers.
